Activities

Throughout the day and into the evening, Pop Wuj offers a variety of activities that are designed to teach you something about Guatemalan and Latin American culture, history and politics. These include films or videos, lectures and round-table discussions. We frequently take trips to local areas of interest such as the indigenous market at San Francisco El Alto en Totonicopan, the Georginas Hot Springs in the mountains above Zunil, and the archeological park of Abaj Takalik. We have a party every Friday night to relax and enjoy ourselves and to celebrate the achievements of our departing students. For those students who wish to organize weekend trips to more distant places, such as Lake Atitlan, the staff will provide advice and assistance. It is sometimes possible to obtain guide services for these trips by making arrangements with individual teachers. It is hoped that all of these activities, by immersing you in the local culture, will reinforce your learning experience.
